As we know Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun and known farthest planet in our solar system. By its diameter, it is the 4th largest planet in our solar system. Neptune is the third most massive planet and the densest planet of our solar system. If we compare to is mass by earth and Its nearest planet Uranus, it is 17 times the mass of our home planet earth and slightly more massive than Uranus.
Out of two ice giants planets of our solar system, one is Neptune ( another is Uranus ). Out of the total mass of Neptune, 80 percent, and more mass is made up of dense fluid of icy material which contains Water, methane, and ammonia. Neptune is the densest planet in our solar system. Its solid core size is approx earth size, made up of a soup of water, ammonia, and methane that flowering over the solid core. Across Neptune, surface winds blasting at a rate of 2,100 km/hr.
The planet in our solar system which is not visible to naked eyes is Neptune. Due to the farthest distance of Neptune from the sun, Neptune is an ice giant after all it is the eighth planet of our solar system, the greatest distance from the sun of any planets makes it cold because Sun is our primary source of heat and light.
The atmosphere of Neptune contains 85% hydrogen and some amount of helium and methane, the amount of oxygen is still uncountable. Survival on Neptune is not possible.
The average temperature on Neptune surface is about minus 200 degrees Celsius ( - 392 degrees Fahrenheit ).
Atmosphere and color of Neptune
Out of two ice giants planets of our solar system, one is Neptune ( another is Uranus ). Out of the total mass of Neptune, 80 percent, and more mass is made up of dense fluid of icy material which contains Water, methane, and ammonia. Of the specified constituents, the blue color of Neptune is due to Methane. This is due to, methane’s gaseous composition absorbs red light and reflect blue light.
Size and Distance
The radius of Neptune is 15,299.4 miles ( 24,622 kilometers ), and it is known farthest planet in our solar system. Neptune is the third most massive planet, it is four-time larger than our home planet earth.
The distance between Neptune and sun is 2.8 billion miles ( 4.5 billion kilometers ). If we calculate distance from the sun in the astronomical unit, it is 30 AU. The sunlight takes 4 hours to reach Neptune.
Orbit and rotation
Neptune takes 16 hours to complete one day or spin. Neptune completes its full rotation around the sun in 165 earth years. Neptune tilted 28 degrees on its axis of rotation.
Rings of Neptune
Like Uranus, Neptune also has a ring. Neptune has five main rings and four prominent ring arcs that we know of so far. The name of Neptune’s main rings is Galle, Leverrier, Lassell, Arago, and Adams. The name of Neptune’s prominent arcs is Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, Courage.
Moons of Neptune
Neptune has a total of 14 known moons and the largest of them is Triton, which is discovered on October 10, 1846, by Willia Lassell. Triton is the only moons in our solar system, that circles its planet opposite to its rotation. Triton was discovered by Voyager 2.
